The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berrien and Cass Counties celebrated their annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser this weekend.

The event is held at Joey Armadillos Bowling in Niles, to praise the efforts of individuals and companies who helped gain sponsors and pledges for the organization.

Fundraising efforts started and January with the goal of collecting some $20,000. Sunday’s bowling event is one of two major fundraisers held by Big Brothers Big Sisters in the area, the second takes place in October.

Christina Frank, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Berrien and Cass Counties helped organize the event and said they expected more than 100 people to show up.

"This is such an important program because we match children, ages 6 to 12 years old with mentors and these mentors are friends who offer positive guidance and support to these children who can really use that extra support in their lives" said Frank.

Organizers are always looking for more volunteers to be a big brother or big sister, according to Frank, there is a waiting list of kids in the community waiting to be placed with a mentor.
