The man who died in a burning car on I-94 in Lincoln Twp. this past Saturday has been identified.
Authorities notified the victim’s next of kin before releasing the information about the identity of the driver, Richard Rouse, 35, of Aurora, Illinois. According to WSJM Radio, Rouse was found dead behind the wheel of a 1996 Buick.
Authorities say the Buick was rolling eastbound near mile marker 21 on I-94 when a deputy from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Dept. spotted the flaming vehicle. The deputy turned quickly turned around but by that time the car crashed into the medium cable barrier.
The Berrien County Medical Examiner’s office conducted a preliminary examination on Sunday, but autopsy and toxicology results are pending.
