Body found in UP pond identified as missing woman

A body discovered floating in an Upper Peninsula pond has been identified as a Marquette woman reported missing this spring.

State police at the Negaunee Post say Friday in a release that 25-year-old Amy Luella Janson was identified through dental records.

The Mining Journal in Marquette reports that three female hikers found the badly decomposed body Thursday about 50 feet from the water's edge of a bog in Marquette County's Marquette Township. The bog is about seven miles north of downtown Marquette.

A police dive team recovered the body.

Police say Janson's relatives reported her missing in May and her backpack was found near the Wetmore Pond shoreline. Silt and poor visibility prevented an effective search of the pond at that time.

No foul play is suspected.
