Benton Harbor discusses new park ideas

Benton Harbor, Mich. The future plans of Benton Harbor recreation areas, are in the hands of the conservancy board.

Tonight, the board discussed new ideas for the city's parks with Benton Harbor residents.

It's one of two planned meetings.

Residents say some of the parks are in disarray and need help from the Benton Harbor Parks Conservancy, a not-for- profit organization.

The new plan would transfer responsibility from the financially strapped city, and into the hands of the group.

"We're under state of emergency, you know, financially and our parks really need to be fixed,” explained Commissioner Mary Alice Adams. “And I'm hoping that the non-profit organizations can help us out."

The second and final meeting will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. at city hall.
