Attorney General Bill Schuette is the latest high-profile Michigan Republican targeted for a
recall effort.
The Midland County Clerk's office confirmed Monday that proposed recall petition language has been filed against Schuette, who is in his first year as the state's attorney general. A clarity hearing on the language is Aug. 1.
The Saginaw News says the effort is related to what the recall organizer calls Schuette's "insubordination" of state voters who approved the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
Schuette's office says in a statement that the recall effort is backed by "fringe element" aimed at making the attorney general "a poster boy in its fight against local police and prosecutors
who are working overtime to do their jobs in the wake of this poorly drafted law."
