GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. A Michigan man who was robbed and beaten five years ago has become the unlikely mentor to one of his attackers.

The Grand Rapids Press reports that now-18-year-old Marcellous Bennett served time in juvenile detention for the attack with two older brothers on Brady Middleton. The now- 24-year-old Middleton was delivering pizza when he was robbed and pistol whipped.

Bennett grew up in Grand Rapids and was in gangs. Middleton was raised in Byron Center with supportive parents.

Though Middleton was severely injured, he decided to help Bennett and the two became friends. They exchange text messages daily and get together often.

Bennett graduated from high school this summer and attends barber school in Portage. Middleton is studying political science at Grand Valley State University.
