A suspect has been arrested in relation to a fire that badly damaged a Benton Harbor apartment high rise last week.
The Benton Harbor Dept. of Public Safety arrested Monica Antionette Smith, 32, on a two count felony warrant for arson to an occupied dwelling, and for malicious destruction of property. Police say Smith is responsible for a fire in the River Terrace high rise apartments on Feb. 21.
Smith spoke with investigators from the Benton Harbor Police Dept. on Monday about the fire, and confessed to starting the blaze in apartment 613 after getting into an argument with the apartment’s owner, Dwight Wilder.
Police booked Smith in the Berrien County Jail later on in the day on Monday, Feb. 25.
