5 Mich. issues in doubt besides Medicaid expansion

The fight in Lansing over Medicaid expansion is overshadowing the fact that other big bills also are unresolved.

At the top of the list is the debate over how to raise taxes and fees to bring more roads and bridges up to par. Other legislation in doubt include capping unlimited medical benefits for catastrophically injured motorists and a measure letting Michigan run more poor-performing schools.

The Medicaid debate could yet be resolved in July or August if senators decide to return for a vote. Other bills are expected to come up for discussion after the summer break.

One contentious education issue involves whether the state should stick with plans to implement new national academic standards in reading and math.
