Police say a Livingston County man appears to have killed himself after shooting his uncle in the head.

The body of 44-year-old Gregory Alan Howell was discovered Monday night in the home he shared with family members in Genoa Township, about 35 miles northwest of Detroit.

His uncle, 47-year-old Gerald Thomas Hall, was found in the same locked room with a gunshot wound to the head. Hall is in critical condition at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.

Livingston County Sheriff Bob Bezotte says the arrangement of the bodies and evidence at the scene indicates the two men were drinking and that Howell shot his uncle before turning the gun on himself.

Bezotte says the men had a history of fighting while drunk.
