Police are looking for a gunman who split after shooting at a carload of teenagers and hitting a bowling ball.
Deputy Police Chief Jim Burke says a car carrying the five teens was merging onto Interstate 94 in Detroit on Monday night when a sport utility vehicle approached from behind. When the car changed lanes as it crossed into Harper Woods, the SUV pulled up on the right and its driver fired a shot from a handgun.
Burke tells the Detroit Free Press the bullet passed through the rear passenger door and hit a bowling ball in a bag being held by one of the teens on his lap. One of the teens was hit by a piece of plastic molding from inside the car.
The SUV exited a few miles up the freeway.
