Democrats in the Michigan House have re-elected Andy Dillon as speaker for the next two-year session.

House Democrats picked up nine seats in Tuesday's election and will have a 67-43 majority starting in January. Dillon is from Wayne County's Redford Township.

Also Thursday, Democrats chose Rep. Kathy Angerer of Dundee to be the next majority floor leader. Rep. Pam Byrnes of Washtenaw County's Lyndon Township will be speaker pro tempore.

Current Floor Leader Steve Tobocman of Detroit and Speaker Pro Tempore Michael Sak of Grand Rapids will leave the House at year's end because of term limits.

House Republicans plan to elect their leaders at a later date.
