A new poll shows Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Carl Levin with an 18-point lead over Republican rival state Rep. Jack Hoogendyk of Kalamazoo County's Texas Township.
The EPIC-MRA poll released Thursday and conducted for The Detroit News and TV stations WXYZ, WILX, WOOD and WJRT showed Levin with 54 percent, Hoogendyk with 36 percent, other candidates with 5 percent and 5 percent undecided.
The telephone poll of 600 likely voters conducted Sunday through Tuesday has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
An EPIC-MRA poll conducted Oct. 19-22 showed Levin leading with 58 percent and Hoogendyk with 30 percent. It was a telephone poll of 400 likely voters with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points.
