Preliminary autopsy results show an 18-month-old girl died of hyperthermia after being left unattended inside a pickup truck for more than two hours.

Police and firefighters from Livingston County's Green Oak Township found the girl's 26-year-old mother performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on her unconscious daughter about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. They took over CPR but the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck was parked outside the family home with its motor off and windows rolled up. The outdoor temperature in nearby Howell was 88 degrees at the time.

Police Chief Bob Brookins says either the mother or the girl's 29-year-old father were at home the entire time the toddler was in her child seat, and both parents were home when she was discovered. He says they have cooperated with investigators.
