A judge handling criminal charges against Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has ordered that about 200 pages of text messages stay sealed for now.

The judge says he'll rule July 14th whether to grant Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy's request to put the text messages in a public court file.

Kilpatrick's defense is seeking to keep the messages confidential and is challenging their admissibility in court.

The mayor and ex-chief of staff Christine Beatty are accused of lying in court about their relationship and their roles in the firing of a police official.
