Michael Booker told a judge Saturday that's he broke and homeless, bouncing from one place to another. He's charged with several crimes related to taking property from Tiane Brown before her body was discovered in her vehicle Wednesday.

Brown was a law student at Wayne State University. Booker and another man, Robert Windsor, aren't considered suspects in Brown's death. Windsor is charged with possessing her stolen phone.

The men have criminal records, which could lead to longer sentences if they're convicted. Booker's bond was set at $500,000, while Windsor is required to post $1,000 to win release from jail.

They don't have lawyers yet.
