Flint Genesee County authorities have arrested two women after an elderly man in their care was found emaciated and in septic shock due to bed sores.

County Sheriff Robert Pickell tells the Flint Journal (http://bit.ly/1zpxrwN ) 36-year-old Melissa Bardoni and 61-year-old Alice Bitters were charged with first and second-degree vulnerable adult abuse after the 67-year-old man arrived at a Flint hospital earlier this month. He weighed 53 pounds.

Pickell says the man had infected bed sores that were bone-deep. He says Adult Protective Services contacted the sheriff's department July 14 after the man was placed on life support.

Bardoni's attorney Patrick Allen declined to comment when contacted by the Flint Journal. The newspaper couldn't reach Bitter's attorney Richard Ponsetto for comment.
