Congressmen Upton and Proos discuss solutions to high gas prices

Congressman Upton spent Mpnday talking with local business owners about rising gas prices.

Upton, along with State Representative John Proos, visited a local trucking company Monday morning to discuss possible solutions to the problem.

Upton says short-term solutions aren't the answer.

He's pushing for things like drilling in Alaska, incentives for more fuel efficient cars, and unlocking the country's reserves.

"Long term we have to look at the whole gamut, as we look to try and reduce the otherwise increasing cost of gasoline to every consumer across the country," said Michigan Rep. Fred Upton (R).

Shawn Hill of Hill's Enterprises said, "We get taxed for the fuel costs and everything, but then we pass that on to the consumer for the products that we haul that people pull off the shelves, so where does it end?"

Proos also introduced a plan today to eliminate Michigan’s 6% state gas tax through Labor Day, for some extra relief this summer.
