500-pound woman rescued from apartment dies

A roughly 500-pound Detroit area woman has died less than a week after being removed from the filthy, bug-infested apartment she shared with her husband and four children.

Warren Police Commissioner Jere Green tells (http://bit.ly/VklZN5 ) The Detroit News that investigators learned Monday about the woman's death at a local hospital.

Green says an autopsy will be performed Tuesday and police are "still looking into the case."

Authorities last week said the case was expected to be presented to prosecutors to determine whether charges would be filed.

The 41-year-old woman was taken Oct. 16 from the apartment north of Detroit.

Investigators believe she was bedridden for more than a year. She had bedsores and was found in her own waste. Bugs and fecal matter were found throughout the apartment.
