A lawyer for a former aide and ex-lover of Kwame Kilpatrick says his client won't testify at the ex-Detroit mayor's kickback and corruption trial.
Jeffrey Morganroth tells The Detroit News (http://bit.ly/SXdp4y ) that Christine Beatty isn't on the witness lists for the defense, and prosecutors aren't calling her either.
The 42-year-old Beatty was a recurring figure in testimony last week in the federal corruption case against Kilpatrick, his father Bernard, contractor Bobby Ferguson and ex-Detroit water chief Victor Mercado.
Kilpatrick faces tax, conspiracy, fraud, extortion and bribery charges.
The son of ex-U.S. Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick was elected mayor in 2001. The married mayor resigned in 2008, pleading guilty to obstructing justice for lying about having sex with Beatty.
He served 14 months in prison for violating probation in that case.
