Saginaw County authorities say firefighters from three departments helped fight a blaze that killed an 88-year-old woman.
The victim's name wasn't released, but neighbors tell WNEM-TV she'd lived in the house for more than 36 years. They say her daughter also lived there but wasn't home.
A passing motorist spotted the fire Monday and stopped at the home of neighbor Randy Lienau, who tried to help the woman but was driven back by the intense heat.
Firefighters say they don't know what started the fire but say there were several space heaters on the home's first floor, where it started.
The home is in Maple Grove Township, about 75 miles northwest of Detroit.
