Kristen DeGroat's plan for Foxy did not include placing the 3-year-old mare on someone's menu.

But human error landed the 25-year-old Akron resident's ad under "Good Things to Eat" in the classified sections of two local newspapers.

DeGroat says her ad to sell Foxy for $200 didn't make it under the horses and stables heading in The Saginaw News and The Bay City Times as intended.

The mistake was corrected in both newspapers, but it was too late.

DeGroat tells The Saginaw News she has received dozens of calls from unhappy animal lovers, but about a third of the 60 or so calls have been from people interested in buying horse meat.

The good news is that Foxy has been sold to a man getting the horse for his grandchildren not as an appetizer.
