Authorities say two Clare police officers were justified in using deadly force against an armed 51-year-old schizophrenic man outside a motel last year.

Clare County Prosecutor Norman Gage has cleared police Chief Dwayne Miedzianowski and Officer Jeremy McGraw of wrongdoing in the September 18 death of William Scozzari.

Scozzari died of multiple gunshot wounds.

The Saginaw News reports Gage came to his conclusion after reading the state police report of the investigation into the shooting, autopsy results and other evidence.

The Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant says Gage called the shooting a tragedy for Scozzari's family, the officers involved and the city.
