John McCain has an automatic advantage as he campaigns in Michigan today, two days ahead of the Michigan presidential primary.

Not only did the Republican win the state eight years ago, but he also draws his support from across the political spectrum.

Michigan lets voters of all stripes participate in the GOP primary, and Barack Obama and John Edwards aren't challenging Hillary Clinton in the state's Democratic primary.

Speaking today in Howell, McCain said he doesn't know how the Michigan vote will go but hopes to do well among independents and Democrats.
