Michigan Consolidated Gas is dropping the price of natural gas starting January 1.

The subsidiary of Detroit-based DTE Energy says the price of natural gas goes to $7 per thousand cubic feet from $7.50.

DTE spokesman Len Singer says a typical residential customer with a bill of about $175 per month during the heating season can expect to save about $12 per month through March.

MichCon President and Chief Operating Officer Jerry Norcia says the company has been able to store large quantities of natural gas and take advantage of seasonal pricing.
