A 6-year-old boy has been shot in a confrontation between a man and police in the western Upper Peninsula.
Police were surrounding the house Thursday night where the 34-year-old suspect was holed up. Authorities say the man's pregnant girlfriend also was inside.
The Daily Globe of Ironwood says the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department reports the man fired on officers answering a domestic disturbance call Thursday afternoon.
During the shooting, a bullet hit 6-year-old Keen Miller, who was taken to a nearby hospital, then transferred to a hospital in Duluth, Minn. He was in stable condition late Thursday.
Bessemer is about 445 miles northwest of Detroit and about 100 miles east-southeast of Duluth.
