About 1,400 pounds of marijuana has been seized by police after two separate traffic stops along Interstate 94.

The Detroit Free Press and WWJ-AM report that police found about 500 pounds of marijuana in a van Wednesday morning near Ann Arbor.

The 26-year-old driver from Detroit and 44-year-old passenger from West Virginia have been arrested. Police tell the Free Press the pair were traveling from New Mexico.

A 50-year-old man from New Mexico was arrested last week in Emmett Township near Battle Creek after he was stopped for speeding.

The Free Press reports that while he was being held on drug and illegal alien smuggling warrants, police found about 900 pounds of marijuana in the back of the pickup truck he was driving.
