The Michigan Senate has passed legislation banning the sale of toys with hazardous substances such as lead paint.

The bill's sponsor says steps taken nationally to curb the problem haven't occurred quickly enough.

Legislation sent to the House bars people from manufacturing, selling, exchanging or offering for sale certain toys contaminated with toxic substances.

There have been a number of high-profile recalls of Chinese imports, including toys containing lead paint.
