State officials say seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates dropped slightly in most of Michigan's 17 regional labor markets in October.

But total employment dropped in most regions last month, mostly because the summer and early fall tourism seasons were winding down.

Regional unadjusted jobless rates for October ranged from a low of 4.8 percent in Ann Arbor to a high of 8.2 percent in Monroe.

The Monroe area jobless rate was up from 6.3 percent in September, mostly because of short term auto industry layoffs.
