A former employee of a police dog training business has been arrested on accusations that he fatally shot a dog during an armed robbery of the owner's home.
Authorities told WDIV-TV and the Detroit Free Press that the 22-year-old man climbed through a bedroom window of the home adjacent to World K-9 in Monroe County's Summerfield Township, about 45 miles southwest of Detroit.
Police say he wore a hood Sunday night, but the owner recognized his voice. He and an 18-year-old accomplice were arrested about three hours later.
Police say the 22-year-old shot a German shepherd standing between him and a 14-year-old boy. They say one of the suspects robbed the boy's 65-year-old grandfather of cash.
