A lawsuit claiming that an elementary school principal forced a black third-grader to use a separate bathroom has been settled.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports the Frankfort-Elberta Area Schools district hasn't released the amount of the settlement.

Euniecia Snyder filed the federal complaint in 2005 on behalf of her daughter, Realite Peebles, who attended the district's elementary school in 2004-05. The suit claimed civil rights abuses.

The district's lawyers denied Snyder's claims in court fillings.

No disciplinary action was taken against the principal because of the claims, since the district contended nothing wrong occurred.
