Human remains identified as Michigan man who vanished in 2003

Human remains discovered in Colorado have been identified as those of a Michigan man who disappeared more than four years ago.

Authorities say 19-year-old Raymond Walter Wiggs III of Alanson (Michigan) was identified through dental records and other items.

Wiggs was last seen on October 24th, 2003. He had been hiking with friends in difficult terrain when he became separated from the group and failed to return to their campsite.

The friends searched more than 24 hours before reporting him missing. An extensive search lasted nearly a week before it was suspended.

Hunters found the remains last Friday in a rugged area near Montrose. The cause of death is unknown.
