Preparations for ski season beginning already

It might still feel like summer, but preparations are already underway for the upcoming ski season at Swiss Valley.

Crews are using the summer and fall months to install a new snow-making system, which will help replace their green slopes with white snow when Mother Nature is not cooperating.

It is a system that will bring people more ski time, but it does not come cheap.

"It costs this area almost $6,000 an inch to put the snow on the skiing surface,” said James Wiseman, the owner of Swiss Valley.

Other changes you will find this season are an expanded snowboarding park and snowboard rentals.

Wiseman says that the slopes usually open in December, around a week before winter break starts for kids in school.
