A potential First Tee program in South Bend seems to be a hole-in-one. Members of the Indiana Golf Foundation Advisory Board visited the school corporation tonight.

The First Tee program educates youth about the game of golf and introduces the sport into elementary schools. First Tee concentrates on providing life skills and values such as integrity, respect and setting goals.

Board members say the program gives students an opportunity to learn golf like any other sport.

"Most kids pick their serious sport by the time they're 8 or 10 years old,” said board member Michael Rippey. “They're gonna be soccer players, lacrosse players and golf has never really been one of the choices because they just don't get a chance to see what's it’s like and how much fun it is. So, I think this is going to change that and I think that's pretty important."

Benton Harbor schools already have the program. Next week, South Bend will make a decision.
