Woman accused of leaving baby in dumpster in court again Wednesday

Granger, Ind. The Granger woman accused of dumping her newborn baby in a Mishawaka dumpster two weeks ago was in court Wednesday morning.

She was given the okay to leave the state for her brother's engagement party.

Purvi Patel, 32, is being charged with a Class A felony, "neglect of a dependent, causing death."

Patel was seven months into her pregnancy when she took drugs to end it.

Medical experts say the child was born alive, weighing just one and a half pounds.

Purvi claims it wasn't moving or breathing, and she thought it was dead.

This morning, Patel made her initial appearance, and a judge scheduled her next court date for October 10.

Like her first time in court, Patel was wearing a scarf over her head, completely covering her face.

She did remove it before speaking with the judge.
