Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia are devastating diseases, not only for the patient, but for the caregivers as well.

A walk this weekend will help keep free support services going in the Michiana area

Paula Abraham is a member of the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Board of Northern Indiana. She also knows what it’s like to take care of a close family member who doesn’t even know who she is. Her mother was diagnosed in 2005.

“She may not have her mind, but she’s still my mom,” Abraham says.

Abraham cares for her mother, and wants to support others in similar situations. That’s why she takes part in the Alzheimer’s Family Walk. The money they raise will help the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Board of Northern Indiana fund services in this region.

The event runs from 8:30 to noon on Saturday, May 11. It’s held at Newton Park in Lakeville, at the corner of U.S. 31 and Indiana Hwy. 4.
