PERU, Ind. (AP) - The National Weather Service confirms an EF-1 tornado struck the city of Peru.

The weather service said Thursday that the tornado that struck the north central Indiana city a day earlier had estimated maximum wind speeds of 95 mph.

Mayor Jim Walker says two people suffered minor injuries.

Walker says Gov. Mike Pence has called and offered help from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

Peru is about 50 miles southwest of Fort Wayne.
