South Bend, Ind. Before Washington's championship game against Oregon Davis this afternoon, Skylar Diggins and the 2007 State Championship team were honored.

The ceremony started with the 2007 team being recognized for their achievements on and off the court. The ladies were given a lifelong pass to all Washington athletics events as a reward for everything they have done for the school.

Kasi Bolden, a Washington High School science teacher, said the current lady panthers really look up to that championship team.

“They talked to the girls about being a young woman, growing up being productive as a student athlete at Washington,” Bolden said. “I believe those girls took that advice.”

Afterwards the school honored Skylar by retiring her number. Diggins lead the team to a 102-7 record during her four years at Washington. She was a two-time winner of Gatorade's Indiana Girl's Basketball player of the year award and was Gatorade's national player of the year in 2009.

Today she was joined by her step father, current Washington girl’s basketball coach, Mo Scott and herfamily at half court to accept the honor.

"It is just a great feeling to share with my best friends and family who came from out of town to come see this presentation," Diggins said. "It is special. You get to see the familiar faces in the crowd and it kind of feels like I never left and I wish I hadn't."

The former teammates cheered on the Panthers from the sidelines after Saturday’s ceremony.

“High school is the best days of your life,” Diggins said. “Looking back on it, I wish we could be back in high school. This group is special and it's so right to be back here together.”

After the ceremony Washington defeated Oregon-Davis 84-79 to win the Washington Tournament.
