Warsaw man airlifted to hospital after jumping from moving vehicle

A Warsaw man is in critical condition after he jumped from a moving pick-up truck in South Nappanee on Friday morning.

Jerry Belcher, 21, was found unconscious and with serious head injuries sustained after jumping from a vehicle at C.R. 800 West.

Officials from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Dept. and emergency personnel arrived on the scene just south of C.R. 850 North at around 5:40 a.m. They say Belcher was a passenger in his dad, Johnny Belcher’s, 41, Dodge Ram pick-up truck and that they were driving on their to work. Investigators say the two had been fighting when Jerry suddenly opened the front passenger door and jumped from the moving truck.

His father said he immediately stopped and ran back to find his son who was in the ditch-line area on the side of the road. When emergency responders arrived, they requested Med-Flight air ambulance to take Belcher to South Bend Memorial Hospital.

The incident is still under investigation by Kosciusko County F.A.C.T, and as of Friday afternoon the 21-year-old was still in critical condition.
