Voter turnout "steady" through the morning

Newscenter 16 was at one location in South Bend around noon where a poll worker says after 27 years, he's seen a bigger turnout Tuesday than he has in all his years at the booths.

That particular location had already seen some 500 voters by the 12 o'clock hour and expects many more.

Earlier today, newscenter 16 was at another South Bend location and in Elkhart, where poll workers said they had seen lines throughout the morning, and at least several voters right as the polls opened at 6 AM.

In addition to the presidential race, Indiana has several important decisions on the ballot, many of which affect our area. One of those contentious races is the run for the 2nd district House seat. Jackie Walorski (R) is challenging Brendan Mullen (D) and Joe Ruiz (L) for the seat after Joe Donnelly announced he would not seek re-election, and was instead making a run for an Indiana Senate seat.

The polls in Indiana are open until 6pm. To vote, they will require a state-issued picture ID.
