More than 150 Valparaiso University students and faculty members gathered at a prayer service for a student who drowned while swimming in Lake Michigan.

Authorities say 23-year-old Rayan Sami Bokhari of Saudi Arabia was found dead Monday at the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore about a mile from where he was last swimming on Sunday.

Bokhari was a sophomore at nearby Valparaiso University. The Times of Munster reports mourners signed a remembrance book, lit candles and walked in a procession to the school's church for a silent vigil Monday night.

Police say the group Bokhari was with Sunday found the Indiana Dunes State Park beach closed because of rip currents and large waves. They walked to an area without lifeguards and he disappeared in waves about 200 feet from shore.
