A utility company is blaming this summer's drought for some of the thousands of power outages in Indianapolis from a weekend storm.
Indianapolis Power and Light Co. reports some 2,000 homes or businesses remained without power Monday morning, a day after strong storm hit the city. Other utilities say nearly all outages have been repaired after storms Saturday night and early Sunday knocked out power to about 100,000 customers across the state.
IPL spokesman Zach Dunkin tells The Indianapolis Star that the drought has made tree limbs more brittle.
Recent storms have led many counties across northern Indiana to lift their open burning bans.
Russiaville fire chief Landen Bartley tells the Kokomo Tribune that the Howard County ban is being lifted Monday but that caution is still needed.
