Just after 9:30 p.m. Friday night, emergency personnel were called to the scene of a train accident near New Carlisle.
It happened at Smilax Rd. between Edison and U.S. 20, closing Smilax temporarily until the accident was cleared.
St. Joseph County Police Dispatch say a car drove into the train.
Rail traffic was able to resume once a wrecker came to remove the car from the tracks.
Officials from New Carlisle and the St. Joseph County Police Dept. say the driver was conscious and alert when they arrived.
The wreck caused heavy front end damage to the victims vehicle, and The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for cuts to his face.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
