Time lapse video captures Michiana's beauty

South Bend, Ind. A South Bend native’s video of the region he grew up in has been shared by thousands of people over the past few days.

Ryan Blaske uploaded ‘Homegrown - A Midwest Timelapse’ on Monday. He spent five months working on the project, which features footage from locations within a 50-mile radius of South Bend.

“I always thought the Midwest was very beautiful,” Blaske said. “So, I wanted to show people a lot of this landscape is right in your backyard. You don’t need to go to a large city or out west or anywhere to find these beautiful landscapes.”

The opening shot features the beautiful, blue waters of Lake Michigan along the shores of Warren Dunes State Park. Blaske says it was his favorite scene to shoot.

“With the lake there and the clouds that day, it was beautiful,” he said.

Growing up, Blaske says he heard a lot of people complain about the Midwest being boring or bland. So, he’s hoping to open their eyes and change their perspective through ‘Homegrown.’

“I really want people to just appreciate where they live,” Blaske said. “I really enjoy it because it’s so calm out here. There’s not a lot of busy city. You can just sit back and relax and enjoy everything.”
