Three injured in LaPorte Co. snowmobile crash

LAPORTE, Ind. Three people are recovering after crashing snowmobiles in LaPorte County on early Saturday morning, just outside Westville near State Road 2.

Three friends were operating their snowmobiles on unfamiliar private property which they did not have permission to ride upon.

Police say the three were launched as far as 45 feet from the ditch while their snowmobiles rolled several times.

All three riders were injured due to the impact of the accident.

David Pilarski, 20, from Westville suffered a concussion, broken right femur, and broken nose. Charlie Herrold, 18, of LaPorte suffered a broken clavicle. Sam Thompson, 22, from LaPorte, suffered a broken nose.

All three riders were wearing their helmets at the time of the accident which helped to lessen the extent of injuries.

Pilarski and Herrold were taken to St. Anthony’s Medical Center for treatment.

Indiana Conservation Officers want to remind snowmobile riders to attain permission from the landowner before operating on their property, and to register your off-road vehicle at your local Bureau of Motor Vehicle Office.
