Don’t feel guilty about satisfying your sweet tooth Sunday. It’s National Ice Cream Day!

Here’s the scoop behind this sweet holiday.

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan designated the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. The designation remains active today.

President Reagan called for all people of the United states to observe the day with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

According to the International Dairy Association, vanilla is the most popular flavor of ice cream.

The industry generates billions of dollars each year, with the latest statistics from 2010, showing revenues totaling around $10 billion.
