Local Mayors held a luncheon Tuesday afternoon to show their support for scouting.
The LaSalle Council and Boy Scouts of America celebrated with local leaders, including the mayors of South Bend, Mishawaka, Elkhart and Plymouth to note the achievements and successes of Michiana scout members.
At the luncheon officials recognized some 8,500 area kids who participate in scouting, as well as the more than 2,000 adult volunteers in charge of the troops.
“You're trustworthy, you are loyal, that you are a man or women of character. That you are someone they could trust and will work hard towards whatever goal you are working for. So when that comes up on a transcript or college application, it really means something to those companies or universities,” said Gus Ladwig, Eagle Scout.
Holy Cross College received the 2013 “Good Turn Award” for providing support, service and leadership to the future leaders of the community.
