Even though the Potawatomi Zoo is closed for the season, zoo staff members have taken the fun from the outdoor exhibits inside.
The zoo is offering classes geared toward different age groups of children ranging from “tiny explorers” to “future zoologists.”
Saturday morning’s lesson focused on chimpanzees, but the zoo says all the classes are about having children learn through various hands-on activities.
Kelly Ulrich, an education curator at the Potawatomi Zoo said, “when they get to do activities of using tools like we have here and fetch items its similar to what chimps have to do and they can do because they are as intelligent as us so that has lasting impact.”
Classes cost between $10 to $17, and for everyone anxious for the zoo to reopen its outdoor displays, the next Winter Day will be held Saturday, March 9.
