Will Mishler is a 15-year-old student at Northridge High School with Neuroblastoma, a rare form of nerve cancer.
He was diagnosed in September 2012, after a football injury. When Will's parents took him to the doctor to have his neck pain examined, an x-ray revealed a baseball sized tumor in his chest.
Will went to Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, IN for an Open Thoracotomy to remove the tumor, and has since experienced a plethora of complications.
"He's had behind the eye surgery, he's had a blood clot in his arm, he's had nerve damage on one side of his body, Neuropathy. He's had a failed pancreas," explained Will's mother Amy Mishler.
Amy Mishler works a varied schedule as a nurse, medic and firefighter, however had to choose between full time work and taking care of her sick son.
The family makes frequent visits to Oncology/Hematology, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, Ophthalmology, Gastroenterology, Radiology, and other labs to maintain Will's rehabilitation.
"It's taken over our whole life," said Amy.
With each trip to the doctor and each procedure comes mounting health care costs.
Will's father, Jim Mishler is a Product Engineer with EverGreen Recreational Vehicles' Lifestyle Luxury RV division. Jim says his insurance coverage at EverGreen is a lot better than it used to be, but it can't cover everything.
When EverGreen learned about Will's condition and the family's struggles, the company wasted no time to assist.
Friday, August 1, EverGreen raffled off a 6-foot by 12-foot Stealth Titan Trailer worth $5,100. Over 1,000 raffle tickets were sold at $5 per ticket.
Between the raffle and sales of "Willpower" t-shirts and wristbands, EverGreen was able to raise $7,000 to give the Mishler family.
