An Osceola teen ended up in the hospital after being shot in the chest 13 miles away from his home.
Around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police found Reese Haithcox, 19, lying in a pool of blood at the Washington Dunbar Homes located in the 1200 block of W. Washington St. in South Bend.
Eyewitnesses said Haithcox and about a dozen other teens were street fighting when one of them pulled out a gun and opened fired. The gunman is described as a young, clean cut black man.
Paramedics transported Haithcox to a local trauma center to be treated for a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Medical personnel expect the teen to survive, but it remains unclear who shot him and what caused the large brawl to break out in the first place.
