UPDATE: Teen recovering after being hit by train

ELKHART A teenager is recovering Saturday evening after being hit by a train on Friday.

A 15-year-old boy was trying to cross the tracks near the intersection of Willard and Middlebury streets, south of downtown Elkhart on Friday night.

Emergency crews tell The Elkhart Truth that he got stuck just before 11 p.m., and the train hit his lower left leg.

The victim's sister said he left their home with two friends right before the accident and said he would be right back.

Few details are available at this time about the boy's condition.

The train was a Norfolk Southern train, coming westbound from Cleveland. It had 24 loaded cars and 100 empty cars. It was pulling into the Norfolk Southern yard in Elkhart at the time of the incident.
